The Bay Area Council’s Cyber Committee was created to generate a consensus around policies needed to address the ever increasing risk and cost of cyber attacks. The Committee, consisting mainly of CIO-level individuals from our member companies, establishes policy priorities which we take to Washington and Sacramento.
The Cost of Cyber Attacks:
The Bay Area Council recognizes the very real and very expensive threat cyber attacks pose to our economy.
- Compliance: Redundant government policies and regulations are costing business millions in compliance and fines, with no guarantee of protection. Varying state standards require significant resources to monitor.
- Cyber Attacks: In a speech, Obama said that Cyber attacks have costs Americans $8 billion in the last two years.
- Lack of Confidence: Cyber crime causes a lack of confidence in doing business online – which costs the economy.
Direction of the Bay Area Council Cyber Security Committee:
- Improve awareness of Cyber Security within the following populations: private industry CEO’s, DOJ, and other public officials
- Workforce development through collaboration with University systems to build new curriculum for Cyber Security – Committee is currently working with the Cal State East Bay to produce course this fall
- Create an information sharing or best practices sharing system with real time capability – allowing companies to share information on new types of attacks and strategies in a secured environment
