China Initiative
The China Initiative Committee works to position the Bay Area and its companies as the gateway between China and the United States, plus help China nurture a robust “innovation economy” and cleaner environmental future. We are building a lasting conduit for sharing capital, ideas, innovation and resources between the Bay Area and Yangtze Delta regions.

Cyber Security
The Bay Area Council’s Cyber Committee was created to generate a consensus around policies needed to address the ever increasing risk and cost of cyber attacks. The Committee, consisting mainly of CIO-level individuals from our member companies, establishes policy priorities which we take to Washington and Sacramento.

Early Childhood Education Committee
In a globally competitive workplace, early education is no longer optional. The Committee intends to make the case to the larger business community, and to the citizenry of the State of California, that we can no longer allow children to enter school unprepared to learn and to succeed.

Education K-12
The Education Committee is dedicated to systemic reforms of public education in California. We are working with other key education stakeholders to build consensus around a set of reforms that all can agree will dramatically improve the effectiveness, efficiencies, and resources that will close achievement gaps and produce a world class educational system with the student outcomes that we must have for 21st century competitiveness. Our future economy and the quality of life of millions of Californians depend upon it.

Energy & Climate Change
The Energy and Change Committee prioritizes and focuses on practices in energy, transportation, public education, smart growth land use, and corporate sustainable practices to maximize reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to sustain and enhance the global competitiveness of the Bay Area.

Healthcare
The Healthcare Committee is working on implementation of national Health Care Reform in California. We strive to educate ourselves and others on the elements of the national plan that impact Californians. We seek to work with other Health stakeholders to ensure that implementation in California inures to the benefit of individuals, businesses, and the others through best practices, wellness, efficiencies, value, aligned incentives, and other techniques and processes that will bring costs under control and produce the best possible patient outcomes. Our economy and quality of life depend upon a fairly rapid adoption of value management tools and techniques accepted and adopted through a broad-based cultural re-visioning of value and accountability.

Transportation & Land Use
The Transportation & Land Use Committee prioritizes and focuses on sustainable, transportation oriented, strategic smart growth to ensure future regional competitiveness of the Bay Area. The Committee advances and influences the development, approval, and execution of a coherent set of local and regional land use and transportation plans, state and federal legislation, and public and private projects that ensure a livable, sustainable, and prosperous future for Bay Area residents and employers.

Water
The Water Policy Committee recognizes that water is a statewide issue and as such solutions will need to be crafted at the state level. The Committee engages northern California business leaders with other key water and environmental stakeholders from northern California to be able to provide a united voice in the state deliberations around ecosystem restoration in the Bay-Delta estuary system.

Workforce Development
The Workforce Development Committee seeks to develop and strengthen ties between educational institutions and industry to identify skills, support curricula development, and ensure a seamless supply of qualified workers at every employment level.
